On Site Security Manager

Role Purpose

The On Site Security Manager will be responsible for the effective management, control and continuous improvement of site security operations. The role is focused on preventing theft and losses, enforcing access control, overseeing surveillance systems, investigating incidents, managing security contractors and guard personnel, and implementing measurable improvements to strengthen overall site security.

Key Responsibilities

Exit Control and Asset Protection

  • Ensure all materials, equipment and company assets leaving the site are properly authorised, verified and documented.
  • Enforce strict exit-control procedures to prevent unauthorised removal of stock and assets.
  • Identify and address weaknesses in asset protection processes.

CCTV and Surveillance Management

  • Maintain full operational oversight of CCTV and other surveillance systems.
  • Ensure surveillance equipment is operational, properly monitored and effectively utilised.
  • Use CCTV proactively to prevent, detect and investigate security incidents.
  • Review surveillance footage when required to support investigations and security improvements.

Incident Investigation and Case Management

  • Independently investigate security incidents, theft, losses and suspected misconduct.
  • Gather and document relevant evidence and information.
  • Manage security cases through to resolution, including applicable disciplinary and legal processes.
  • Maintain accurate records of investigations and outcomes.

Security Intelligence and Informant Management

  • Receive and assess security-related information and intelligence.
  • Verify information and take appropriate action to prevent theft, collusion and other security threats.
  • Develop appropriate sources of information while maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.

Security Contractor and Guard Force Management

  • Oversee contracted security providers and on-site guarding personnel.
  • Monitor guard performance, attendance, conduct and compliance with site procedures.
  • Ensure security service providers meet agreed standards and performance requirements.
  • Address performance concerns and implement corrective measures where necessary.

Gate Security, Searches and Alcohol Testing

  • Ensure strict enforcement of site access-control procedures.
  • Monitor and manage pedestrian and vehicle entry and exit processes.
  • Ensure searches are conducted in accordance with company procedures and applicable requirements.
  • Oversee alcohol and other authorised substance-testing procedures where applicable.
  • Take appropriate action when access-control or testing procedures are not followed.

Night Shift and After-Hours Security

  • Maintain a visible and effective security presence outside normal operating hours.
  • Conduct regular and unpredictable after-hours inspections and security checks.
  • Monitor security operations during night shifts and weekends where required.
  • Identify and address weaknesses that may increase after-hours security risks.

Theft Prevention and Loss Reduction

  • Take direct responsibility for reducing theft, security-related losses and operational risks.
  • Implement preventative, detective and deterrent security measures.
  • Identify recurring causes of losses and develop targeted corrective actions.
  • Monitor security performance and measure improvements in loss prevention.

Security Improvement Projects

  • Continuously assess site security risks and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and implement practical security enhancement initiatives.
  • Track the effectiveness of security improvements using measurable performance outcomes.
  • Review security procedures regularly and recommend changes where required.

Reporting and Management Communication

  • Provide accurate, timely and actionable security reports to management.
  • Communicate security incidents, risks, trends and recommended corrective actions.
  • Maintain appropriate security records and documentation.
  • Submit a complete monthly security report by the end of each month.
  • Present security performance information and improvement recommendations to relevant management.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience in security management or a related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of security procedures, risk management and on-site security best practices.
  • Working knowledge of relevant security legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees, contractors, management and other stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to make sound and decisive decisions under pressure.
  • Good organisational and administrative skills.
  • Proficiency in using security technology and equipment, including CCTV and surveillance systems.
  • Strong understanding of access control, investigations, loss prevention and security operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory or managerial experience in an industrial, commercial or high-risk security environment.
  • Experience managing outsourced security contractors and guarding teams.
  • Valid security industry qualifications or certifications.
  • PSIRA registration is essential.
  • Additional training in investigations, risk management, loss prevention or security operations will be advantageous.
