A temporary contract opportunity, with the possibility of becoming permanent, is available for a reliable and hardworking General Worker. The successful candidate will assist with general grounds, maintenance and support duties while helping to keep the school environment clean, safe and well maintained.

Contract Details

  • Contract Period: 1 November 2026 to 31 March 2027
  • Employment: Temporary contract with the possibility of permanent employment

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general worker and grounds maintenance duties.
  • Assist with the upkeep and maintenance of the school grounds.
  • Carry out routine repairs and basic maintenance tasks as required.
  • Maintain outdoor areas, facilities and surrounding grounds in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Assist with general cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Use basic tools and equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Identify maintenance issues and report problems requiring additional attention.
  • Assist with moving equipment, furniture and other items when required.
  • Support the school with general operational and maintenance tasks.
  • Assist with the safe transportation of learners where required and authorised.
  • Work collaboratively with staff and other service providers.
  • Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times.
  • Perform other reasonable general duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Previous experience as a General Worker, groundsman or in a similar maintenance position.
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks.
  • Reliable, punctual and responsible.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good practical skills and a hands-on approach.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently.

Advantageous Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Relevant trade certificate.
  • Previous general worker or grounds maintenance experience at an Afrikaans-medium primary school.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Experience transporting learners.
  • Additional skills in repairs, maintenance and general handyman work.
  • Experience with basic building, plumbing, electrical, painting or other maintenance-related tasks will be advantageous.
  • Ability to work with a variety of hand tools and maintenance equipment.
